  • Asian woman mountaineer Premlata Agrawal has become the first Indian woman mountaineer to scale the seven continental peaks after climbing Alaska’s McKinley Peak.

  • Rituparno Ghosh, the renowned Bengali film maker died on 30 May 2013 of cardiac arrest at his south Kolkata residence.

  • The oldest person in the world, Japanese Jiroemon Kimura,116 years Japanese man became the last male of the 19th century in the world. Jiroemon Kimura was given the title of last male alive to be born in the 19th century after the death of Barbados in the month of May 2013 at the age of 113 years and 90 days.

  • 44 Years old Ang Dami Sherpa from Nepal won the Everest Marathon on 29 May 2013 in women’s category of Year 2013.
  • The Annual Plan for the year 2013-14 for Tripura was finalised on 29 May 2013. The size of the plan was agreed upon at 2500 crore Rupees.

  • Manoj Das, the Noted Oriya writer on 28 May 2013 was presented the NTR National Literary Award.
  •  On 28 May ,three scientists whose groundbreaking studies using fruit flies helped to uncover the workings of the human biological clock were named the winners of the $1 million Shaw Prize .US scientists Jeffrey Hall, Michael Rosbash and Michael Young received the award “for their discovery of molecular mechanisms underlying circadian rhythms”.

  • A new variety of mango was named Nirbhaya after the 23-year-old Delhi rape victim.

  • Shashi Kant Sharma an IAS from 1976 Bihar Cadre on 21 May 2013 was appointed as CAG of India by Pranab Mukherjee. He will succeed Vinod Rai in the office.
  • 2014 was declared as the Friendship Year by Chinese Premier Li Keqiang for increased people-to-people interaction between India and China.
  • World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development was observed on 21 May 2013.

  • Najib Razak on 6 May 2013 was sworn in as the Prime Minister of Malaysia for a second term by Malaysia’s king.

  • Shiksha Setu Cards were issued to the students of Government school students by Haryana Government to keep a track on performance of the students.

  • Najib Razak led National Front won the 13th General Election of Malaysia on 5 May 2013 it secured 133 seats of 222 members Parliament seat.
  • India and China on 5 May 2013 pulled back their troops from the stand off point at Daulat Beg Oldi sector in Ladakh.
  • At the IAAF World Challenge meeting in Kingston, US-based discus thrower, Vikas Gowda clinched Gold on 5 May 2013 with the throw of 61.38 metres.

  • Sarabjit Singh, the Indian national and a death row prisoner in the Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail died on 2 May 2013 at the Lahore's Jinnah hospital.
  • Ramsar Convention appointed Dr. Christopher Briggs as its new Secretary General. He succeeded TiĆ©ga Anada.
  • Jenita Mary Nongkynrih, A young woman scientist from Meghalaya was selected for ISRO Young Scientist Award 2013
